Renault Tangier Factory, Successful Public-Private Partnership- Minister

The production of the millionth car by the Tangier Renault plant marks the success of a unique public-private partnership putting Morocco on the map of the global automotive industry, said Industry and Investment Minister, Moulay Hafid Elalamy.

Speaking Monday at a press conference on the occasion of the celebration of the export of the millionth Dacia vehicle, Elalamy expressed satisfaction with the growing expansion of Renault’s ecosystem, which he describes as a key driver for the growth of the automotive industry in Morocco.

He added that Morocco’s Industrial Acceleration Plan offers Renault and its car part suppliers prospects for a much promising future.

For his part, Director General of Renault Maroc, Marc Nassif, underscored the significance of the celebration of the millionth vehicle by the Tangier plant, five years only after its opening.

He said the Tangier factory is key to Renault’s global investments with an annual production capacity of 340,000 vehicles, adding that cars “made in Morocco” make up 10% of overall vehicles produced by the French car manufacturer.

After Nassif recalled that Renault has been operating in Morocco since 1928, he said that Dacia Logan has maintained its standing as the best selling car in Morocco for 11 years.

Since its inauguration in 2012, the factory has produced in all 474,840 Sanderos, 320,078 Dokkers and 193,181 Lodgys bound for 73 markets around the globe.

The factory’s adoption of energy efficiency has earned it the title of the most environmentally friendly plant in the automotive world. The plant is designed to generate zero CO2 emissions and zero industrial effluent discharges with more than 90 percent of needs fulfilled by renewable energies, notably through an innovative biomass heating plant (100,000 tons of CO2 emissions saved per year).
