Casablanca’s major rail upgrade is moving ahead a year after King Mohammed VI launched the program on September 24, 2025. The 20-billion-dirham Greater Casablanca program forms part of Morocco’s national rail transformation plan for 2030, which carries a total investment of 96 billion dirhams, and aims to improve train services and ease travel across the city and surrounding areas.
The program includes three new major railway stations, 10 new commuter stations and the renovation of five existing ones, alongside 260 kilometers of new railway lines, 50 engineering structures either built or expanded, two technical centers, five maintenance centers and 48 new trains for commuter and regional services.
Work is under way on the three main new stations — Casablanca-Sud, Mohammed V Airport, and the future Hassan II Stadium station in Benslimane — each expected to take 24 months to build and currently on schedule. Casablanca-Sud will become a major hub with six platforms and 10 tracks serving high-speed, conventional, regional and commuter trains, connecting directly to the tramway and bus and taxi services.
The Mohammed V Airport station will link the airport directly to Greater Casablanca’s rail network via four platforms and seven tracks, split between conventional, high-speed and Aerexpress services, with a separate city-side entrance toward Nouaceur. The Benslimane station will serve the Hassan II Stadium, particularly during the 2030 World Cup, with two platforms and four tracks for high-speed trains during major events plus five platforms and six tracks for commuter services.
Construction has also started on 10 new commuter stations across Greater Casablanca, in locations including Mohammedia Colleges, Zenata, Sidi Bernoussi, Ain Sebaa, Hay Mohammadi, Mers Sultan, Casablanca Oasis, Sidi Maarouf and Nouaceur, each following a common design with clear passenger routes, ticketing and waiting areas, and the technical and safety systems needed to operate.
