Moroccan flag carrier expands fleet to 70 aircraft as growth strategy gains pace

Royal Air Maroc has expanded its fleet to 70 aircraft, marking another milestone in the airline’s ambitious growth strategy as it prepares for a major capacity build-up over the coming decade.

The latest deliveries underline the acceleration of the carrier’s expansion plans, with the fleet growing from 50 aircraft in 2021 to 70 today, a 40% increase in five years, le360 reported.

The national airline is pursuing a development program that envisages the addition of between 10 and 15 aircraft annually as it seeks to strengthen its position in international markets.

The fleet expansion forms part of a broader transformation plan launched under the performance agreement signed between the Moroccan government and Royal Air Maroc in July 2023.

Under the roadmap, the airline aims to increase its fleet to 74 aircraft by the end of 2026 and 88 in 2027 before reaching 200 aircraft by 2037.

The strategy is designed to support the expansion of Royal Air Maroc’s international network and reinforce Casablanca’s role as a major aviation hub linking Europe, Africa, the Americas and the Middle East.

By 2037, the carrier plans to serve 143 international destinations and transport around 31.6 million passengers annually, a significant increase from current levels.

Moroccan authorities view the aviation sector as a key pillar of the country’s tourism and economic development ambitions, particularly as it prepares for major international events and rising visitor numbers.
