The Moroccan under-16 boys’ national tennis team delivered a remarkable performance, winning the African Team Championships held in Polokwane, South Africa, and thereby securing their qualification for the World Championship.
“The boys’ national team won the African Championship title following a flawless run marked by victories against Kenya, Egypt, Zimbabwe, South Africa, and Algeria,” stated a press release from the Royal Moroccan Tennis Federation.
This result allows Morocco to secure its place in the upcoming U16 World Team Championships.
Meanwhile, the girls’ national team finished as African runners-up after an impressive run featuring wins over Algeria, Togo, Egypt, and South Africa, before falling in the final to Tunisia.
The boys’ team was made up of Reda El Aouni, Mehdi Laabi, and Samy Iraqui, while the girls’ team consisted of Yasmine Douyeb, Lara Faraj, and Hind Hannaoui.
Both teams were coached by Messrs. Mehdi Tahiri and Mohamed El Rhaba.
Following the team event, the Moroccan delegation will continue its run in Polokwane by competing in the African Under-16 Individual Championships, scheduled for July 27–30.
