Exclusion of Polisario from Korea-Africa Meeting, Another Setback Deepening Separatists’ Isolation

The Polisario Front and its supporters have suffered a new diplomatic setback after the exclusion of the Algeria-backed separatists by South Korea from the Korea-Africa ministerial meeting held in Seoul.

The Korean decision is seen by several observers as a slap on the face of those pushing for the presence of Polisario in international economic and development forums.

The Algerian military regime has tried to no avail to secure the participation of Polisario but Seoul has refused. It has not invited the separatist group, restricting participation only to internationally recognized States.

According to several analysts, the South Korean position aligns with that of international economic powers focusing more on strategic interests and economic projects, rather than getting embroiled into political and regional disputes undermining the host countries goals.

The exclusion of Polisario from the Seoul meeting comes after the separatists were barred from participating in several international forums and partnership initiatives in recent months. This means that the days of the Polisario are numbered and that the international community is no longer fooled by their deceptive propaganda at a time international partnerships in Africa are increasingly focused on investment, trade and economic development.

Furthermore, UN Security Council resolution 2797 endorsing Autonomy plan under Moroccan sovereignty is accelerating the Polisario downfall and isolation. All countries around the world have taken note of this historic resolution and aligning their position with UNSC decision.
