Morocco: Trafficking attempt of over 4 tons of cannabis resin foiled at Tanger Med
Police and customs officers at Tanger Med Port thwarted an international drug smuggling attempt early Sunday morning, seizing 4.37 tons of cannabis resin hidden inside a fruit shipment bound for Europe, a security source said.
The joint control operations carried out by the police and customs services of a Morocco-registered international freight truck heading to Europe led to the seizure of the drug shipment, which had been carefully concealed within a load of fruit, the security source said.
The Moroccan truck driver, 51, was placed in custody pending further investigation under the supervision of the Public Prosecutor’s Office. Authorities are working to determine the full scope of the operation and identify any national or international networks connected to the trafficking attempt.
This operation is part of ongoing efforts by security services at border crossings to combat international drug and psychotropic substance trafficking networks.
