Burkina Faso commends Morocco’s leadership at helm of AU Peace and Security Council
Burkina Faso’s Foreign Minister, Karamoko Jean-Marie Traoré, has commended Morocco’s leadership at the helm of the African Union’s Peace and Security Council (CPS-UA).
Traoré commended Rabat’s diplomatic approach in convening informal consultations on March 18 with six African nations—Burkina Faso, Gabon, Guinea, Mali, Niger, and Sudan—all currently undergoing political transitions.
The meeting, held under Morocco’s presidency of the AU-PSC in Addis Ababa, provided these countries with an important platform to discuss their paths toward stability and reintegration into the African Union.
The six nations that participated in the consultations have faced AU suspensions following political upheavals. The March 18 discussions were a significant step in their reintegration efforts.
Traoré reaffirmed his commitment to supporting Morocco’s efforts in making its tenure a success.
As the current chair of the AU-PSC, Morocco has prioritized a diplomatic approach to foster peace, security, and governance across the continent. The recent consultations allowed representatives from the suspended AU member states to share updates on their democratic transition efforts and engage with the AU’s peace and security body.
This initiative aligns with Morocco’s broader African policy, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, which focuses on regional stability and sustainable development.
