Morocco, CAR examine prospects for expanding military cooperation

Morocco and the Central African Republic have examined this Monday in Rabat military cooperation between the two countries and prospects for expanding this cooperation to other areas of common interest.

The topics were discussed at meetings held by General Zéphirin Mamadou, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces and Commander of the Bangui Autonomous Defense Zone of the Central African Republic, who is paying a visit to Morocco on January 17-23, at the head of a large military delegation.

General Zéphirin Mamadou held separate talks with FAR Inspector General and Commander of the South Zone, Lieutenant General Mohammed Berrid, and with Minister Delegate in charge of National Defense Administration, Abdeltif Loudyi.

During the talks that covered various aspects of military cooperation, including training and exchanges of visits, both sides welcomed the strong ties of cooperation between the two countries’ Armed Forces, the FAR General Staff said in a statement.

The Chief of Staff of the Central African Armed Forces expressed his gratitude to King Mohammed VI for the support extended to the Central African Armed Forces, and praised the action of the Moroccan contingent in MINUSCA and its decisive role in the UN stabilization mission.

Since 2014, Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces have been participating in peacekeeping in the Central African Republic, within MINUSCA, through a contingent of 750 military personnel, the FAR statement recalled.
