Morocco tops fresh produce exporters to Spain
Morocco has strengthened its position as Spain’s top supplier of fresh produce in 2024, with exports reaching 801 million euros from January to October, up 13% from the same period a year earlier, Spain’s fresh produce association (FEPEX) said.
Nearly a quarter of Spanish imports of fruits and vegetables were supplied by Morocco, FEPEX said in its most recent report.
Peru came second with 501 million euros, followed by France with 426 million euros and Portugal with 350 million euros.
The agricultural sector plays a significant role in the trade relationship between Spain and Morocco. In recent years, the agri-food trade balance has been favorable to Morocco.
Spain is Morocco’s main trading partner, with Spanish imports from Morocco reaching €9 billion in 2023, while Spanish exports to Morocco hit a record high of €13 billion.
