Libya, Chad sign MoU to regulate workforce mobility

Libya and Chad have formalized this week a Memorandum of understanding to regulate the movement and employment of Chadian workers in Libya.

The MoU represents a key step in improving labor relations and legal frameworks for workforce movement between the two countries.

According to the media office of Libya’s Ministry of Labor, the MoU is designed to enhance joint cooperation in managing labor movement and ensuring organized, lawful employment practices. It covers protection for both workers and employers, when it comes to addressing labor rights, establishes fair employment conditions, and supports legal compliance across sectors.

Libya’s Minister of Labor and Rehabilitation, Ali Al-Abed, one of the signatories of the MoU, highlighted the importance of this collaboration with Chad, emphasizing that the agreement aligns with Libya’s commitment to reinforcing bilateral relations and creating a more structured environment for foreign labor in Libya.

Chad’s Minister of Public Service and Social Dialogue, Abdallah Amidou Mbabi, on his part expressed his appreciation to the Libyan government for advancing this agreement, noting that it will play a significant role in protecting Chadian workers’ rights and encouraging lawful employment practices. He also underscored the deep-rooted ties between Chad and Libya in labor cooperation, stating that this MoU strengthens an already solid foundation for mutual support and coordination.

This MoU follows Chad’s recent request for the resumption of flights with Libya and improved management of operations at their shared border. These developments reflect both nations’ efforts to streamline cross-border labor movement and trade, which could foster economic growth and employment opportunities in both countries.
