Royal Advisor André Azoulay receives prestigious distinction in Spain

André Azoulay, advisor to King Mohammed VI, was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Alfonso X the Wise, one of Spain’s most prestigious honors, in a ceremony in Madrid.

The award was presented by Spain’s Foreign Minister, José Manuel Albares, at the historic Viana Palace.

Albares praised Azoulay’s lifelong dedication to promoting coexistence and dialogue, highlighting his efforts to make Morocco a global reference in these areas.

“André Azoulay has tirelessly worked to make his country, Morocco, a global advocate of coexistence and dialogue, respecting the richness of all our diversities,” Albares said.

During the ceremony, Albares emphasized that the Spanish government recognizes Azoulay’s extraordinary contribution over the past 30 years to strengthening Moroccan-Spanish relations.

Azoulay’s efforts have drawn on shared history, culture, and education, beyond just geography and diplomacy.

“In today’s turbulent international context, this award to André Azoulay symbolizes our commitment to dialogue and coexistence around the Mediterranean, which unites us and is the cradle of our civilizations,” Albares added.

Albares also praised Azoulay’s leadership in ensuring that Sevilla and Essaouira continue the legacy of Toledo under Alfonso X, where Muslims, Jews, Christians, and others lived together in mutual respect.

Expressing his gratitude, Azoulay said he was honored by the symbolic and promising award for the future of Morocco and Spain. He expressed pride in seeing Morocco, under the enlightened leadership of King Mohammed VI, recognized as a leader in promoting tolerance, coexistence and inter-cultural dialogue.
