Libya seeks to restore flights with UK
The restoration of flights between Libya and the United Kingdom, particularly to cities with significant Libyan communities was discussed at a meeting between Head of Libya’s Civil Aviation Authority, Abdul Rahman bin Youssef, and British Ambassador to Libya, Martin Longden.
The British diplomat agreed to liaise with relevant UK departments to support the Civil Aviation Authority’s efforts and commended the progress made particularly in aviation safety and compliance with international standards.
The meeting addressed the performance in meeting international requirements to lift the European ban on Libyan aircraft. The Libyan Authority presented a detailed update on the nearly 90% completion of the comprehensive digital transformation project aimed at addressing civil aviation needs and shortcomings.
Additionally, the discussion covered the challenges posed by some countries’ negative assessments of Libya’s security situation and its designation as a conflict zone, which have impeded efforts to restore flights to Libyan airspace.
