Morocco Takes Part in China-Africa Cooperation Forum

Moroccan foreign minister Nasser Bourita took part, on Tuesday in Beijing, in the ministerial meeting of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum, a platform seeking to foster Chinese-African partnership on the basis of the principles of solidarity, cooperation and respect of sovereignty and territorial integrity of states.

During the meeting, the Chinese and African ministers discussed and approved the Beijing Declaration and Action Plan which will be submitted to the China-Africa summit (Sept.4-6) for final adoption.

Bourita availed this opportunity to confer with several diplomats on ways of strengthening peace, stability, and development in Africa through bilateral or triangular cooperation with China.

According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), China has become sub-Saharan Africa’s largest bilateral trading partner. Around 20% of the region’s exports now go to China and about 16% of Africa’s imports come from China.

In 2023, African-Chinese trading hit a record $282 billion. Primary commodities – metals, mineral products and fuel -represent about three fifths of Africa’s exports to China, while the continent imports mostly from China manufactured goods, electronics and machinery.
