Morocco reaffirms South-South cooperation tenet at Indonesia-Africa Forum

Moroccan foreign minister Nasser Bourita highlighted the fundamentals of Morocco’s foreign policy regarding the African continent, stressing the need to promote south-south and trilateral cooperation and advance the Royal initiative to help landlocked Sahel countries access the Atlantic ocean.

Speaking at the Indonesia-Africa Forum, in which he represented King Mohammed VI, Bourita said that under the Royal Atlantic initiative, Morocco would offer its infrastructure, roads, rail network and ports to landlocked Sahel countries willing to access global trade.

In this respect, he also highlighted the relevance of the gas pipeline, to connect Nigeria to Morocco, while benefiting 13 west African countries.

The project has been described as conducive to regional economic cooperation and energy security.

Morocco also advocates cooperation on food security amid rapid demographic growth and worsening climate change effects in the continent.

During the forum, Indonesia plans to sign deals worth some $3.5 billion, according to Indonesian media.
