Germany ready to support Libya in addressing immigration issues

German Minister of State for Migration Bernd Kroeser expressed Germany’s willingness to collaborate with Libya, both bilaterally and through the European Union Commission, to address illegal immigration.

The remarks were made during a meeting with Libya’s acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Taher Al-Baour, on Wednesday.

Talks focused on illegal immigration and the efforts by Libyan security services to combat the issue.

Kroeser highlighted the challenging security conditions in some countries, which have led to increased immigration flows into Europe.

Al-Baour emphasized the significance of the Trans-Mediterranean Migration Forum held in Libya last July and noted that Libya, as a transit country, cannot tackle illegal immigration and its associated challenges alone. He reiterated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ commitment to enhancing bilateral relations across various sectors and acknowledged Germany’s pivotal role in supporting political solutions for Libya.

The two sides agreed to establish a joint committee with representatives from relevant sectors in both countries to address illegal immigration and other security concerns.
