Arab Parliament commends leading role of King Mohammed VI in defending Palestinian cause

The Arab Parliament commended the leading role and sustained efforts of King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al Quds Committee, in defending the Palestinian cause.

This came in a resolution on the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories issued by the Arab Parliament during its 5th session held in Cairo Saturday.

The Arab Parliament also emphasized the actions of Bayt Mal Al Quds Asharif Agency, an offshoot of Al Quds Committee, and its efforts to preserve the identity of the Holy City and its legal status, and back the resistance of its inhabitants.

The Arab institution, furthermore, called for greater coordination between Arab and regional parliaments to support the admission of the State of Palestine as a full member of the United Nations, urging countries that have not yet recognized the State of Palestine to do so in all international forums.

The institution also praised Arab and international efforts calling for an immediate and urgent cessation of aggression in Gaza and for a ceasefire, the resolution of the conflict in the region in accordance with existing international conventions, and the admission of the State of Palestine as a full member of the United Nations.

The Arab Parliament reiterated its support for the Palestinian people and their just national cause until they obtain their legitimate rights of return, freedom, self-determination, and the creation of an independent Palestinian state with Al Quds as its capital. The Arab MPs called on all international and UN parties to assume their responsibility to establish peace, security, and stability in the Middle East—an objective that cannot be achieved without resolving the Palestinian issue and guaranteeing justice and freedom for the Palestinian people.

This session was also marked by the adoption of a resolution on the situation of Palestinian women in the occupied Palestinian territories.

During the session, participants highlighted the role of the Arab Parliament as a key player in fostering cooperation efforts, serving the strategic interests of Arab nations, and complementing official diplomatic endeavors.

They emphasized the importance of synergy between official and parliamentary diplomacy in advancing the interests of the Arab peoples, renewing the institution’s commitment to supporting the initiatives undertaken by Arab leaders in defending and promoting Arab causes.

The agenda of this session included the examination of reports from the four standing committees, namely the Foreign Affairs, Political Affairs, and National Security Committee; the Legislative, Legal, and Human Rights Affairs Committee; the Social, Educational, Cultural, Women’s and Youth Affairs Committee; as well as the report of the Palestine Committee, which deals with significant developments in Palestine and efforts to end Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip.

The meeting’s program also included the examination of draft resolutions and laws submitted by the parliamentary committees following their preparatory meetings for the session, aiming to follow up on all political events and developments in Arab countries throughout the year.

Morocco was represented at this meeting by Mohamed Bakouri, president of the National Rally of Independents (RNI) group in the Upper House and head of the Economic Committee in the Arab Parliament and other MPs member of the Arab parliament’s various committees.
