Saudi Acwa Power reports new breakdown in Noor Ouarzazate solar plant

Saudi renewable energy company, Acwa Power, said a new breakdown will leave a solar plant in Noor Ouarzazate project idle until November 2024, totaling losses estimated at 47 million dollars.

The breakdown was due to a storage problem, it said in a statement on the Saudi Stock Exchange, adding that it was planning to build new storage tank.

The 150-megawatt plant was subject to criticism in recent years after its low performance and repetitive breakdowns which experts blame on the concentrating solar power technology choices, according to Reuters.

Renewable energies in Morocco represent 40% of installed capacity as the country aspires to increase that share to 52% by 2030.

Morocco has unveiled a hydrogen offer to international investors, an initiative that will attract more investments to the country.
