COP28: Princess Lalla Hasnaa Visits UAE & Morocco Pavilions
Princess Lalla Hasnaa, President of the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Protection of the Environment, visited on Wednesday in Dubai “UAE House of Sustainability” pavilion and “Morocco pavilion” in COP28.
Upon her arrival, the Princess was welcomed by Emirati Minister of climate change & Environment Maryam Al Meheiri and Moroccan Minister of National Education, Chakib Benmoussa, as well as by Environment Young Reporters representing the 12 regions of the Kingdom.
At the entrance of the UAE falcon-inspired pavilion, Lalla Hasnaa was welcomed by Ms. Razan Khalifa Al Mubarak, President of the International Union for Conservation of Nature, before touring the “Sustainability Oasis” which offers visitors an outdoor relaxation journey, celebrating the country’s historic irrigation system, along with drought-tolerant plants and trees.
The Princess also visited the sand dunes made from sand gathered from all over the country. These sand dunes tell the story of how ancestors used the heat and the arid sands to their benefit and built sustainable ecosystems.
The Princess attended a ceremony, on digital screens, paying homage to Emirati climate change champions for their work. She also visited the science and innovations area offering visitors a glimpse into future concepts including “Dinner in 2050,” an artificial intelligence-powered dining experience.
At Morocco pavilion, Lalla Hasnaa was welcomed by Minister of Energy Transition & Sustainable Development before touring the various areas of the pavilion wherein the Princess was provided a detailed explanation on the events organized by the Kingdom and its strategies for sustainable development, green energy, and clean mining.
The visit of Lalla Hasnaa was also marked by presentations made on Morocco’s efforts to address climate change, Morocco’s chairing of UN Environment Assembly (UNEA 6) and the screening of a documentary on Morocco’s achievements accomplished since the Rio de Janeiro COP held in Brazil.
