Norwegian STAR SEAFOOD to invest €100m in Mauritania

STAR SEAFOOD, a Norwegian Seafood Company, is mulling plans to inject €100 million into Mauritania’s Nouadhibou free trade area for a three-phase project that will generate more than 2,800 jobs.

The chairman of the authority of the FTA of Nouadhibou (the country’s second city) Ba Abdoulaye Mamadou met Monday October 30 with representatives of the Norwegian company.

The first phase of the investment will consist in the creation of a factory for the production of Omega 3 capsules. This phase will employ over 260 Mauritanians. The second phase will focus on the creation of a land-based fish processing plant.

The plant will carry out filleting, canning, as well as active Omega 3 fish oil production, which will be a first in the sub-region, in addition to specialized processing for international customers.

Some 2,000 jobs will be created at that juncture. The third phase will be about aquaculture of RAS- shrimps. STAR SEAFOOD plans to produce and distribute shrimps. The process will generate 600 jobs.

Founded in 2018, the company according to its website, is specialized in export of Norwegian Salmon and trout all over the world.
