Green Transport: Marrakesh to receive 20 electric buses from South Korea

Korea’s International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) will donate Moroccan city of Marrakesh 20 electric buses worth $7.5 million. These zero emission buses will help improving air quality in one of the world most popular tourist destinations.

The grant’s agreement was inked Wednesday by KOICA Chief in Rabat Yongwoo Jeong, president of the Council of Marrakech-Safi region Samir Goudar, and 1st vice-president of the Marrakesh commune council Mohamed Idrissi.

Under the agreement, the South Koreans will also give Marrakesh an Intelligent Transport System worth $5.1 million for a better management of transport of the city.

Electric buses offer commuters a much quieter and a more comfortable traveling experience. They will also help the city to reduce its carbon footprint, address climate change challenges, and improve the health of citizens.

Morocco is committed to speeding up its green transition, protecting the environment and boosting low-carbon economy.
