Tunisia: Terrorist attempt targeting security forces in Sousse foiled
A terrorist attacking involving an improvised explosive device (IED) targeting a security patrol in the city of Sousse, has been foiled, Tunisia’s Interior ministry said in a statement Thursday.
Police officers of services of the National Research Unit in Terrorist Crimes foiled attack attempt with IED, the statement said.
An arrested a suspect admitted to have pledged allegiance to the Islamic state group.
Search of his residence led to the seizure of inputs used in IED manufacturing, in addition to ammunition and hunting rifles.
Sousse, 140 km south of the capital Tunis, was the scene of a bloody attack that cost the lives of dozens of foreign tourists most of whom were Britons, in 2015.
The Islamic state group claimed the attack that was carried out by a lone wolf reportedly trained in neighboring Libya.
