Morocco’s export association eyes Russian market with Halal products
Morocco’s export association, ASMEX, has inked a deal with Center for Standardization and Certification under the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Russian Federation and the Eurasian Development Fund aiming at selling Moroccan halal products in Russia.
The deal, struck late last week, is spurred by emerging opportunities provided by the covid-19 pandemic, aujourd’hui.ma reports citing ASMEX President, Hassan Sentissi.
“Changing consumer habits and the requirements for healthy and hygienic consumption imposed by the health crisis offer greater opportunities. Halal certified products are known to be of higher quality with safer production standards for health,” Sentissi said.
ASMEX has embarked on a major Moroccan halal products promotion campaign as part of it priorities. The association has set up Halal export Club Initiative tasked with identifying markets, promoting Moroccan halal products, and assisting in their international certification.
“Globally the halal market is mainly exploited by non-Muslims. It is a pity for Morocco, which enjoys geographical and cultural assets, not to invest this potential in terms of halal,” Sentissi complained during an online conference with various Moroccan exporters.
