Morocco confirms two new coronavirus cases

Two more coronavirus Cases were confirmed on Wednesday by Moroccan Health ministry. The wife and daughter of the infected French tourist also tested positive for COVID-19.

They were already quarantined by the Moroccan medical teams within the frame of the prevention measures before the confirmation of their infection with the virus. The French tourist arrived in Marrakech with his family on March 7.

The three French nationals are currently receiving all necessary medical care and their condition is “not worrying”, according to health officials.

The two first coronavirus cases reported in Morocco, a 39-year man and an 89-year woman, both came from Italy, the epicenter of Europe’s coronavirus epidemic. The old woman, who was suffering from chronic respiratory and cardiovascular diseases passed away on Tuesday.

Morocco has decided to halt temporarily all flights and maritime links with Italy, currently under lockdown due to a coronavirus outbreak.

In January, the Moroccan airline suspended direct flights to Beijing over fears of deadly virus, which continues to spread around the world.

Moroccan government has decided to ban fans from all football matches and cancelled trade, sporting, cultural and artistic events involving foreign travelers. Prevention and control measures have also been strengthened at airports, ports, hospitals…

Globally, more than 4,000 people have died so far from the coronavirus and over 113,000 cases have been confirmed, according to the World Health Organization.
