Gabon: Ali Bongo appoints new envoy to Morocco

President Ali Bongo has appointed Gabon’s envoy to Togo as his new ambassador to Morocco that hosted him for medical treatment for several months after he suffered a stroke in October while attending an investment conference in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

President Bongo returned home Sunday after he spent a convalescence period in Morocco.

At the first cabinet meeting he chaired Tuesday, Bongo appointed Sylver Minko Mi-Nseme, the Gabonese current envoy to Togo, Benin and Ghana as his new ambassador to Morocco in replacement of Abdu Razzaq Guy Kambogo.

Guy Kambogo becomes Gabon’s new foreign minister, according to a statement issued after the cabinet meeting.

In January, President Bongo had interrupted his medical treatment in rabat and spent less than 24 hours in Libreville to attend the inauguration of a new cabinet.

Bongo, 59, came to power in the elections held following the death of his father, Omar Bongo, in 2009. Omar Bongo had ruled the country for 41 years.
