Morocco’s King Inaugurates Two Sport Projects Destined to Youth

King Mohammed VI inaugurated, on Thursday in Marrakech, an indoor Semi-Olympic swimming pool and sports fields, whose construction cost amounted to around 31 million dirham.

The two community-based sports projects, underpinned by a strong social value added, are a new example of the Sovereign’s solicitude for sport and youth.

The young people of the districts where the two projects are located will actually have sites for entertainment, relaxation and training. They will also have opportunities to socialize and develop their sporting skills in the best possible conditions of coaching and security.
The swimming pool, which meets international standards in terms of energy efficiency and water saving, offers young people an adequate facility to exercise and enhance their talents. Likewise, it will contribute to the revitalization of sports associations, and will encourage the emergence of new athletes able to compete nationally and internationally.

This project is part of a program providing for the construction of five community indoor pools in other neighborhoods for 70 mln MAD.

The other sporting project inaugurated by the Sovereign includes 10 artificial turf football fields, race tracks, a children’s playground, green areas, a cafeteria, an infirmary, and changing rooms. Covering a total surface area of 20,000 m2, this project is part of nationwide program providing for the construction of 832 social and sport complexes. The program, worth 600 mln MAD, will be completed in 36 months. The facilities will be built in rural and Peri-urban communes in the various regions of the Kingdom.

The inauguration of these projects destined to young people mirrors the keen interest King Mohammed VI grants to youths.

In several of his latest speeches, he emphasized the need to put young people at the heart of a new development model, called for the preparation of an integrated youth strategy and asked that a special consideration be given to finding the most effective means to improve young people’s circumstances.

“We must give our young people what they need in the areas of education, employment, health and so on. More importantly, we must enhance their confidence and give them hope in the future… Every citizen is entitled to the same opportunities, to a good education and to a decent job,” King Mohammed VI underlined in a speech last August 20.
