King Mohammed VI Inaugurates Souss-Massa Innovation City

King Mohammed VI inaugurated Thursday in Agadir the Souss-Massa City of Innovation, a regional version of the Industrial Acceleration Plan, launched by the sovereign on January 28, 2018.

 

This new City, which required a 42 million DH investment, is meant to be a real lever for the emergence of Research & Development and a center for innovation, translates the interest the Monarch grants to the Souss-Massa region and his will to upgrade the region to a central economic hub, capable of creating employment for young people and ensuring inclusive growth at the service of the citizen.

 

The Souss-Massa City of Innovation, located within Ibn Zohr University, provides the region with a technological infrastructure, that is likely to promote entrepreneurship, help create innovative startups, publicize the results of scientific research for the benefit of economic sectors and industrial ecosystems of the Region and enable technological transfer and rapprochement between companies and R&D structures.

 

This pilot project has an incubator for innovative companies and start-ups, and a R&D Center housing laboratories for “Identification and Analysis of Natural Entities ”;“ Biotechnology and Health ”;“ Residue Analysis ”;“ Climate Change & Sustainable Development ”;“ Water, Energy & Renewable Energies” in addition to an engineering lab.

In addition to the City of Innovation, the regional version of the Industrial Acceleration Plan provides for the creation of a Technopark worth 55 million dirhams, intended for SMEs and start-ups in the information and communication technology sector.

Infrastructures destined to investors and entrepreneurship are being deployed over approximately 380 ha, of which 305 ha are reserved to the Industrial Acceleration Zone.
