Seasonal flu situation in Morocco, normal- WHO says

Seasonal flu infections in Morocco are at a normal level and there is no source for concern, reassured the World Health Organisation and Morocco’s health ministry.

WHO and the ministry issued a joint statement on the matter in response to news reports on the death of a number of citizens due to swine flu (H1N1) infections.

“WHO and the health ministry are following the situation closely and recommend ordinary preventive measures,” said the statement.

“Flu monitoring systems are fully functioning in Morocco and generate the necessary data for action and prevention,” the two parties said noting that the flu outbreak levels are normal.

They both recommended vaccine shots against H1N1, which has become an ordinary flu virus since 2010.

At least, 11 people died of complications of H1N1 infections. According to the health ministry, most of them had vulnerable health conditions prior to infection.

The ministry also reassured that H1N1 vaccines as well as the Tamiflu medicine were available in Moroccan drugstores.
