Air Arabia Launches Agadir-Birmingham Direct Flight

Moroccan low-cost airline, Air Arabia, launched a direct air route between Agadir and Birmingham with the aim of attracting more British tourists to Morocco’s Atlantic tourist hub.

The new air link will help boost tourist arrivals to Agadir, which, together with Marrakech, accounted for 60% of tourist nights spent in the Kingdom.

Agadir-Birmingham flights are available on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Birmingham is the second most populous city in England and the UK with more than 1,200,000 people.

More than 650,000 UK tourists visited Morocco last year as Morocco aims at attracting 1 million Bretons in the upcoming two years.

Morocco closed 2017 with a record number of 11.35 million tourists visiting the country, i.e a 10% rise compared to the previous year.

Revenues of the tourist sector stood at 69.7 billion dirhams (€6.16 bln) compared to 64.2 billion dirhams in 2016 and 5.67 billion in 2015.

This season is auguring well with a 9% increase in tourist arrival to 4.1 million tourists up to May compared with the same period last year.

Up to May revenues stood at 27.1 billion dirhams, compared to 23.6 billion dirhams year-on-year.
