Morocco, Two Years Ahead of Schedule in Plan to Plant 3 mln Palm Trees

Morocco progresses 2 years ahead of schedule by completing 60% of the plan to plant 3 million palm trees by 2020, the agency for the development of oases areas and Argan tree (ANDZOA) said.

“If works continue on this pace, the goal of planting 3 million palm trees will be achieved in 2018,” rejoiced the Director General of the ANDZOA who was speaking at the opening of the 7th International dates festival, held in the eastern oasis of Erfoud.

ANDZOA is an offshoot of the ministry of agriculture. It was created in 2010 upon directives of King Mohammed VI with a view to facilitating a comprehensive and sustainable development in oases areas and those covered by the Argan tree.

The agency has the mission of environmental-friendly policies conducive to the preservation of the eco-systems in oases and mountains covered by the Argan tree.

The agency also undertakes studies and coordinates between different departments in projects aiming at improving the social and economic conditions of the inhabitants of oases areas.
